Four little girls sit on a hill overlooking the Laurelton Oaks estate, dreaming of getting married there. Four young women, dateless at their high school prom but with a bottle of whiskey, make a vow to find true love and always be each other’s bridesmaids—no matter what life throws at them. Thirty years later, they are still keeping that promise.

Whether it’s a second or third wedding, no matter the distance, season, schedules, or personal setbacks, they show up for one another. Always a Bridesmaid by the successful writing trio Jones, Hope, and Wooten has been called “a happy play” by critics. Perhaps because, despite all the ups and downs, it’s ultimately about friendship—how far one is willing to go to keep a promise made to a friend.

This story of four brave, vulnerable, funny, and fiercely loyal women will resonate with anyone who has ever teared up during Four Weddings and a Funeral. Together with a wonderful cast of actresses, we’ve aimed to turn this “happy play” into a graceful and entertaining theatrical experience.
